Camp Shakespeare

 

The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival’s summer camps are a unique and fun arts experience your children will never forget! The Festival’s Education Faculty includes theatre professionals, actors and teachers with years of experience performing and teaching Shakespeare.

Will’s Players is a one-week, half-day camp designed for our youngest Shakespeareans. It’s perfect for kids who have participated in Bard Buddies or are brand new to the Bard. Will’s Players will explore the life and times of Shakespeare and the basics of theatre, along with fun crafts, games, and improvisations.  During the final class, students have the opportunity to share their work with family and friends.

Will’s Players runs for one week, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday – Friday. Tuition is $150 per student.

Our signature education program, Camp Shakespeare will serve students in different camps with a geographical diversity. The camps are open to youth ages 8 – 14, giving students a two-week performance-based curriculum. This includes Shakespearean history, period movement, performance and acting techniques. Camp Shakespeare students then participate in abbreviated productions of the Festival’s summer play.

Camp Shakespeare runs for two weeks, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Tuition is $325 per student.

Scholarship application

Shakespeare Unlimited is specially designed for returning Campers, giving them a deeper study of Shakespeare and a more complex look at scene study, character development, and theatre crafts. Students will create their own version of the 2019 play, as well as explore other Shakespeare plays.

Students who have not attended Camp Shakespeare will need to speak to Matt Rapport, the Festival’s Director of Education, prior to registration.

Shakespeare Exploration is a conservatory-styled camp that provides an advanced experience for returning and new teen campers. Students will experience in-depth acting work highlighting vocal, physical, and acting techniques used in performing Shakespeare. Campers will focus on acting exercises, text work, rehearsal of monologues, and scenes, culminating in a public performance of an abbreviated version of the 2019 Festival play.

Shakespeare Exploration runs for three weeks, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday – Friday. Tuition is $440 per student.

This camp offers students a unique perspective on Shakespeare through the use of contemporary music styles, pop culture, spoken word poetry and writing for students ages 10 – 18. Camp will culminate in a unique performance created by the students with the guidance of our professional Teaching Artists.

Shakespeare Alive runs for three weeks, from 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Tuesday – Friday. Tuition is $440 per student.

Education Refund Policy

There is a $20 nonrefundable processing fee for enrollment. The remainder will be refunded up to two weeks prior to the start date if a student needs to drop the class or camp.
