Shakespeare Summer Camps

Help your child connect with an artistic community of other kids this summer! The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival’s signature summer camps provide a place for your child to collaborate, create, learn language and presentation skills, build confidence, and HAVE FUN! 

  • In our interactive and creative classroom, students will explore Shakespeare’s plays, life, and times, as well as learn acting techniques to help bring the text to life. Camp includes team building, visual art, storytelling, and MORE!
  • Professional teaching artists will lead campers through the day via camp sessions, individualized coaching, and interactive projects.
  • Camps will concentrate on process-based lesson plans to focus on the growth of each student individually and as an ensemble.
  • Camps will culminate in presentations for friends and families to enjoy.
  • Campers may need access to a smart phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection.

*We will continue to monitor and follow all CDC and KCMO health guidelines. Based on current recommendations we reserve the right to require vaccination and/or masking for all eligible students at our camps. Overland Park Arboretum | Ages 8 – 14 | MON – FRI | July 22 – August 2, 2024 | 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. | Final performance on the evening of August 2 at the Overland Park Arboretum.

Tuition is $400 per student.

Since 1997, Camp Shakespeare has been bringing Shakespeare to life with enriching and engaging experiences for young people.

In this week-long intensive, students will receive a one-of-a-kind experience working with professional theatre artists as they learn the basics of Shakesperean history and acting techniques, as well as stage combat, improvisation, costume and prop design and building, and other performing arts skills. This intensive will culminate in a performance of selections from Shakespeare’s classic plays on Friday, August 9 at 6:00 p.m.

Ages 12 – 18 | August 5 – 9 | 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. | Final performance on August 9 at 6 p.m.

Tuition is $245 per student.

Since 1997, Camp Shakespeare has been bringing Shakespeare to life with enriching and engaging experiences for young people.

In this week-long intensive, students will receive a one-of-a-kind experience working with professional theatre artists as they learn the basics of Shakesperean history and acting techniques, as well as stage combat, improvisation, costume and prop design and building, and other performing arts skills. This intensive will culminate in a performance of selections from Shakespeare’s classic plays on Friday, June 14 at 3:00 p.m.

Tuition is $245 per student with an additional $75 for lunch (optional)

Our signature education program, Camp Shakespeare is open to youth ages 8 – 18, giving students a ten-day interactive curriculum. This includes Shakespearean history, visual art, performance, and acting techniques.

Camp Shakespeare Southeast runs for two weeks, from 10:30am – 5:00pm Tuesday-Saturday. Tuition is $400 per student. The night of the final class, students will have the opportunity to share their work with family and friends on site at Bruce R Watkins Cultural Center.

Shakespeare Unlimited is specially designed for returning students aged 10-14, giving them a deeper study of Shakespeare and a more complex look at scene study, character development, and theatre crafts.

Shakespeare Unlimited runs for two weeks, from 8:30am – 3:30pm Monday-Friday. Tuition is $400 per student. At 6:00pm on July 6th, students will have the opportunity to share their work with family and friends.

June 24- July 6, 2024 | M-F | 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Alexander Majors Barn | 8201 State Line Rd.

Performance is on Saturday,  July 6th at 6:00 PM at Alexander Majors Barn | No Camp on July 4

Tuition is $400 per student.

Scholarship Application 2024

Shakespeare Exploration is a conservatory-styled camp that provides an advanced experience for returning and new campers aged 14-18. Students will experience in-depth acting work highlighting vocal, physical, and acting techniques used in performing Shakespeare. Campers will focus on acting exercises, text work, rehearsal of monologues, and scenes, culminating in a final performance of an abbreviated version of the 2024 Festival play.

Shakespeare Exploration runs for three weeks, from 9am – 3pm Monday-Friday. Tuition is $500 per student. The final performance will take place at the campsite on August 2, 6:00pm.

July 15 – August 2, 2024 | M – F | 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Performance is on the final day of camp (August 2) at 6:00PM at the Alexander Majors Barn.

Tuition is $500 per student.

Here are a few ways to save:

  • If you are a RETURNING camper, you receive $20 OFF enrollment.
  • If you have a SIBLING attending one of our camps, you receive $20 OFF enrollment.
  • Gather a group of 3 or more FRIENDS OR FAMILY and each child enrolled will receive a $20 discount.
  • If you are the child of a FIRST RESPONDER or HEALTHCARE WORKER, you receive $20 OFF enrollment.

Education Refund Policy: There is a $20 nonrefundable processing fee for enrollment. The remainder will be refunded up to two weeks prior to the start date if a student needs to drop the class or camp.
